RFI vs. Submittal: What's the Difference?
TL;DR: Both go to the design team, but they serve very different purposes in the contract.
An RFI asks a question. A submittal proposes how you will meet the spec.
RFIs clarify design intent or resolve conflicts. Submittals (shop drawings, product data, samples) demonstrate compliance before fabrication or installation.
Track them in separate logs: RFIs by days open and impact, submittals by spec section, lead time and required-on-site date.
